Bromley LTC Gala Evening – October 2009

Bromley LTC enjoyed their National Club League success with a champion Gala Evening held at the Bishop Justus Theatre Hall, where Eddie “The Voice” Partridge was the cabaret act.

Guests, club members and players mingled together to celebrate winning the nation’s premier inter- club title.

Young Matt Illingworth of Beckenham was named ‘Player of the Season’; he played number 1 for the team and he did not lose a singles match the whole season, including three out of three wins in the final.

Manager Charles Baylis presented Matt with a trophy whilst announcing that his nine year reign as Manager was at an end. During that time Bromley have come from the backwaters of the County divisions, to be runners up in 2008 and Champions in 2005 and 2009.

Former National doubles champion Oliver Freelove will now take over as Manager, with Charles Baylis staying involved with funding and sponsorship.

Chairwoman Rachel Payne presented Charles with a replica NCL trophy and praised his leadership, determination and player selection during his term, adding that the tough decisions that come with being Team Manager should not be underestimated and thanked Charles and the players on behalf of BLTC

She also went on to comment how well the junior section of the club had done with the most successful summer on record, including another Aegon green trophy.

The celebration was a fitting end to a successful Aegon campaign and a memorable season, roll on 2010!

And the 2009 Aegon National Men's Champions are….BLTC!

Having defeated last years winners, Sutton T&SC, in yesterdays semi- final, our Men’s National Team today beat David Lloyd Raynes Park, to win the coveted Aegon trophy. The weekend saw a fantastic display of tennis played on the clay at the very impressive West Hants Club.

Watch for the full article to appear here on the site.

On behalf of all our members, huge congratulations go to Charles Baylis and the Team for a thrilling weekend of tennis and a big thank you for bringing the title back to Sandford Road!

AEGON National FInals – Bournemouth 4th-6th September

Following the recent success of the Bromley LTC AEGON Team in the Regional Play-Offs, the players are now eagerly preparing for The Finals at The West Hants Club, Bournemouth taking place in early September.

Support from club members is vital for the team’s success as matches are often tight and the encouragement the members give is greatly appreciated by the players. Why not come down and support for a day or make a break of it and stay for the weekend? You will see some terrific tennis and this year the 2009 squad has a great chance of regaining Bromley’s 2005 crown.

Play takes place on Friday 4th September and Saturday 5th September, with the Main Final (fingers crossed) on Sunday 6th.

If you are interested in staying for the weekend please contact Martin Rands who can provide details for some great deals (

AEGON NCL Play Offs this Saturday. Can Bromley make it six in a row

Bromley LTC face the toughest of challenges against St George’s Hill in the AEGON National Club League tennis playoffs.

Win, and Bromley LTC will make the grand finals in Bournemouth for the sixth consecutive year, quite a record when NO other club in Kent has ever reached the finals.

We have all enjoyed Murray’s efforts at Wimbledon; this is a chance to see some of the British players who also played at the tournament.

Bromley’s line up will include four local lads, Nick Cavaday, Matt Illingworth, Sean Thornley and doubles expert Oliver Freelove, and of course Jamie Delgado who made the third round men’s doubles at Wimbledon knocking out the number thirteen seeds on the way.

Manager Charles Baylis is cautious about the team’s chances, as he pointed out “ St Georges Hill could turn up with a very strong team as their squad includes players of the calibre of Chris Eaton, but as always it is about who plays best on the day and we have a very good line up for the match”.

Play starts at Noon on Saturday 11th July at Sandford Road, Bromley. All spectators are welcome, and if you have been inspired by Murray to want to join a tennis club why not come and look round!

Aegon local derby this weekend!

Those of you who know anything about local tennis will know that Park Langley vs Bromley LTC is a big match: especially when it’s the Country’s biggest club competition the AEGON National Club League Premier Division…

BLTC have started with three straight wins, while Park Langley has yet to win this season, so the stakes are high. Bromley will be favourites having not lost a divisional match for over two years, and are 2nd in the division. With a top of the table clash looming in two weeks at Globe, any loss will hurt their chances of finishing top.

Some big names will feature for Bromley as they can draw on some of their professional names within the squad. Local players Matt Illingworth, Nick Cavaday. Sean Thornley, coupled with Jamie Delgado and James Auckland, who are all playing on the tour full time.

Bromley were beaten finalists in 2008, and have qualified for the grand finals every year since 2004, winning the title in 2005, they are in with a real chance of capturing the title again this season.

Bromley then host Connaught at their Sandford Road home on Sunday 7th June 09, all matches start at midday, spectators are always made more than welcome.

Aegon weekend number three…

With rain causing disruption yesterday only two Aegon teams were in action: Mens National and Ladies County

The men romped home to a 5-1 win against Westcliff, leaving their last divisional match away at Park Langley on 31st May. Such a big local derby is worthy of support so why not head over there to watch them in action..

The Ladies team concluded their divisional matches with a 4-2 win over Canterbury. With honours even after the singles round it was doubles strength that saw BLTC take the match and take second place overall in the division.

No Aegon matches are scheduled for this weekend

Aegon weekend number two…

More thrills and spills this weekend with all of our Aegon teams in action…

BLTC Mens National team beat Gosling 4-2, doubles prowess brought the victory after finishing the singles round 2-2. Gosling are one of our top rivals in the division so it’s a fantastic result.

Mens County narrowly lost out to Canterbury ITC. Full credit to team Captain Martin Curzey who once again kept team hopes alive going into the second round by winning his singles. Both BLTC pairs had match points to take the fixture into a 3-3 shoot out but it wasn’t to be and the steady hands of Canterbury prevailed to take the fixture 5-1

Ladies County had a stormer on the home courts at Sandford Road, beating Blackheath 6-0, solid match play across the team saw BLTC drop only 2 sets.

Our 10 & Under Green Guys were due out against Maidstone who surprisingly were unable to field a team. We await clarification but expect to claim the fixture. So, 3 from 3 is looking good!

With each campaign now in full swing everyone is back in action this weekend with both Mens and Boys teams in action at home and the Ladies heading off to Canterbury. Home support makes a big difference so why not come along and provide some cheer: all times are listed here on the website

Good luck to all those competing!

Mixed fortunes for our Aegon Teams…..

All four of our Aegon Teams were in play this weekend, from BLTC Men’s National through to Boys 10&U Green Team

Here’s how it went down……

Mens National kicked off with a 6-0 win, helped by Letchworth being down one player, our team didn’t get troubled at this early stage. Wanting to ensure victory BLTC brought out ‘hot form’ Sean Thornley for the dubs…

Mens County lost out 4-2 to Sydenham in a doubles thriller! Despite being down 3-1 after the singles round Captain Martin Curzey tweaked his doubles line up; only to win one but lose out 11-9 in a match tie break that could have taken the fixture to a shoot out…

Ladies County also lost out 4-2 to Bromley Cricket. Reflecting the Men’s team result,  the Ladies went into the dubs 3-1 down but still with a chance thanks to Sue Grimwood’s victory over BCC’s no 2, rated 5.1! The BCC line up featuring Kent Captain Emily Brimson (4.1) proved just too strong and BLTC went down 4-2….

Monday saw our Boys Green Team in action (10 and under), go 2 from 2 … !! With a win already under their belts, BLTC’s ‘Green Guys’ came out looking hungry against a strong East Kent Academy Team…. With first round wins for all-  BLTC were 3-0 up going into the second round. With BLTC strength prevailing again in the second round. our ‘Green Guys’ romped home 6-0- well done!

Everybody’s in action again next week end- check out the fixtures calendar to see who’s where and… Come and support- it makes the difference!

Watch for a ‘Meet the players night’- coming soon

Aegon Team Tennis (formerly NCL)

Building on our National Mens Team’s success BLTC have expanded their participation in this premier event.

This summer BLTC have entered two more Aegon Teams in to this nationwide competition.  With the huge footprint of our Mens National Team both new teams have a great deal to live up to!

The format of matches will add pressure to court availability on match dates but every effort is being made to ensure impact is minimised.

With a new sponsor in Aegon, the LTA are seeking to make a distinct ‘Team Tennis period’ in the competition calendar, for 2009 the bulk of this period is May when match dates are stipulated, so members should expect some busy days! Meantime, watch the site for more information as it comes out.
