qualified once again for the 2012 AEGON Team Tennis Finals at The West Hants
Club, the Bromley team travelled to Bournemouth
last weekend to try to regain their National Crown.
previous winners Bromley LTC were seeded 2 before the draw was made, much to
the surprise of the Bromley contingent. Whilst the Kent side were hoping for a relatively easier match in the first round against the
likes of Holcombe Brook, Wrexham TC, Loughborough University or even The West Hants
Club, the draw couldn’t have gone worse for the Kent side and were drawn to play
Sutton T & SC in the first round on the Friday. Having already lost to
Sutton in the South East Group stages, the team knew this would be a tough call.
Bromley’s campaign was Kent No 1 Sean Thornley, who was up against Sutton’s
Neil Pauffley in the first singles rubber. After a close first set which the
Sutton player won 9-7 in the tie-breaker, Thornley eventually went down 6-7(7),
three rubbers didn’t go Bromley’s way either with Nick Cavaday losing to Josh
Jones 4-6, 3-6, Rob Searle losing to Andrew Bettles 4-6, 1-6 and Andrew
Richardson (previously unbeaten for the Bromley team) going down to Oliver
Hudson 2-6, 4-6.

4-0 (who ultimately made it to the Grand Final on Sunday having beaten Paddington SC on the Saturday).

and Bromley were up against Wrexham TC who had lost to Paddington the day
Ross-Hurst was playing at No 1 for Bromley and edged out Wrexham’s Rogan
Egerton 6-1, 6-2.
Captain Nick Cavaday was not as successful against Alan Bevan, losing in
straight sets 3-6, 3-6.
Rob Searle came through his singles to beat Simon Morris 6-4, 6-2 and Andrew
Richardson returned to his winning ways beating Steven Billington 7-6(5), 6-4.
singles matches Bromley were 3-1 ahead and only needed to win one of the
doubles rubbers to secure overall victory.
& Searle paired up to take on Wrexham’s Alan Bevan and Craig Evans in what
can only be described as a doubles master-class. The Bromley pair were far too
strong for the Welsh side and came through to win 6-1, 6-2.
4-1 and secured 5th place in the finals. Captain Cavaday was
encouraged by his team’s performance. “From an entry of over 3,000 teams in the
competition, finishing 5th after what was an injury ridden and difficult
season is a remarkable achievement for the players and the club. Hopefully we
can build on our success although the team has lost several sponsors over the
last couple of years and these will need to be replaced to ensure the future of
